In the depths of Mythology, there are great beasts, that as Harbingers for their Gods. Woden, Tör, Tyr, Fregah, Freg, Hjalmer, Lokir, and Helar. Woden is The ÅllWolf, the Beast of The Hunt and Destruction. Tör is the ThorBear, the Beast of the Storm and Disasters. Tyr is The KriegEagle, the Beast of The Sky and War. Fregah is the VatenHorse, the Beastess of The Seas and Predictions. Freg is the SkugHorse, brother of Fregah, the Beast of The Night and Death.
Hjalmer is the Kraken, the Beast of The Depths and The Swarm. Lokir is the FuskFox, the Beastess of The Lie and Falsehood. And last, but certainly not least, is Helar. Child of Freg and Lokir, Helar is the Beastess of The Void and The Dead. They are collectively known as The Nine Beasts, The Harbringers, or simply The Nine. They are feared, honoured and worshiped as Gods.
Every one of them has distinct features and tell-tale signs of their presence. Woden is brooding, calculating but quick to anger and quite protective of his followers. His appearance takes of a great Wolf, with fur the colour of obsidian, his eyes glow a dull red. Woden's human form has two stages; the first is that of a young man, with short, spiky black hair and tanned skin which are riddled with tattoos. He also seems to pay attention to current fashions of his human age (27).
Tör is the first to start an argument, and if it comes to blows, no-one is walking away without scars. But when it comes to his followers, he is quiet, doting, caring and as with Woden, is very protective of them. Tör's human form is that of a large, heavy built young man (26). He always seems to be working out, and this causes, unintentionally, people to be afraid of him despite his 'gentle' nature.
Tyr is a Bald Eagle, golden feathers and ivory crest. His eyes may not glow but are piercing ice blue in colour. He soars upon the winds of War and watch over the Kingdom of Man. He is more independent than other Harbringers, but he is quick to respond to calls of War. Tyr's human form takes that of young man, short blond hair, and is the second eldest amongst the Harbingers (27). Fregah is a Unicorn, given shape from solidified sea foam. Fregah is a shy and quiet Harbinger, very recluse and distant from civilizations.
She rides upon the waves that circle the world, and only comes to shore very rarely. Fregah also receives predictions that she can interpret for her followers or anyone for that matter. Her human form is not unlike the depictions of the Vanir Goddess of Freja. Long blonde hair, fair skin, and sky blue eyes. Her brother on the other hand is a whole other story. Freg is a Nightmare, a Black Unicorn. He exists in and out of reality, passing from one world to another at a whim. As the Harbinger of Death and The Night, he is a nocturnal being. If anyone were to find Freg during the day time hours, he would be fast asleep. Being a Nightmare, Freg has onyx like skin, a mane that burns a bright blue, and burning red eyes.
Hjalmer is the great Kraken, a beast of the depths of the seas. Not many have seen this form, and when it appears it does not forebode well. Many an armada can testify that, with all their lost souls. But his human form is well known across the seas and oceans. A robust old man with a thick grey beard and stained clothes, Hjalmer sails the seas in a small fishing boat. Many sailors, and passengers, have heard Hjalmer sing when he fishes, in a deep rich voice. Songs are from an old and forgotten world, and all the horrors and deeds from it.
Ahh, Lokir. She is the Fox, the joker and master of mischief amongst the Harbingers. She has caused much trouble for her brothers and sisters, and for the mortals. She is quite the prankster and can impersonate any mortal or even fellow Harbingers. But the most common form she possess; is a young man/woman with long blond hair and quite exaggerated features (i.e. man is quite buff, the woman with large assets etc.)
Helar, Beastess of the Void and The Dead. She has no true form, as she is the youngest of the Harbingers, a mere 1700 years. She is always seen in her human form, a female teenager, long raven black hair, and pale skin. She has a slim build which belies her agility and strength. The only defining feature that separates her from humans is her left skeletal arm. No flesh, no sinew, nothing but bone.

The Guardians of Asgaard revere these demi-gods in many fashions: altars dedicated to the harbingers and their gods, small shrines dotted across their ships and fortresses, small charms that they bear at all times. The crew, serfs and thralls that serve the Guardians may not all be pagan and may worship the God-Emperor. There is a separate chapel or cathedral set aside for these followers, so not to discriminate them. On-board the Chapter-Fortress Miklagaard, there is the Temple of the Nine as well as the Cathedral of his Holy Majesty. These are the focal points for the Guardians' worship and reverence. The fortress is also the care taker of the last piece of Midgaard, the first World that the Guardians had claimed as their Chapter World.
The Temple consists of nine antechambers which each hold a massive altar. Upon each is a twenty foot statue of the nine Gods and standing beside them is a statue of their respective Harbinger. Odin, Thor, Tyr, Freya, Frey, Heimlar, Loki, Hel. Odin, the Allfather, stands with his spear Gungnir, his one eye staring into your soul. Thor, the Asator, wields his mighty hammer Mjolnir, his mere presence sparking lightning. Tyr, the God of War, stands at ease with his
This is a WIP of my background information for the pagan belief of my Homebrew space marine chapter, the Guardians of Asgaard.

So far I have only covered the deities that oversee the physical world and touched the immaterial.

If people would be so kind as to point out any mistakes or contradictions, that would be most helpful.
